SILENT HILL: Townfall
Players' stories
We had Silent Hill 2 remake and Silent Hill F on GOG. it only make sense to have Silent Hill Townfall there as well. i want to support this game on my favorite platform, so hopefully we will get it here
I just started watching a playthrough of SH Townfall and maaaaan this game looks beautiful. The atmosphere, writing, music, and art direction, all had me hooked in the first 5 minutes. It would be a pleasure to experience this on GOG myself and really be able to sink my teeth into what Townfall has to offer. I've always been a fan of the multifaceted characters and stories that come from the Silent Hill franchise and this looks no different. An absolute must have on GOG
The latest SHs did get a release on GOG, so this town must fall here as well! Or we riot! :P Uh 160 characters, well, I wish I had SH2R and SHF on GoG, but I have them on the plattform with the turbine engine, preordered. But this time I WAIT. 😀

Description

Simon Ordell is called back to the island of St. Amelia to ‘put things right’, encountering a town lying quiet beneath a heavy fog, seemingly abandoned but not at rest.

Venturing deeper, and driven to understand his connection to the place and its inhabitants, Simon begins to discover fragments of a past rising to the surface.

Experienced entirely in first person, Simon must explore, evade, and survive using a limited set of weapons and tools, including the CRTV, a pocket television used to tune into unstable signals. Evasion is tense; combat is frenetic, while narrative driven puzzles reveal a truth that refuses to stay submerged.

SILENT HILL: Townfall is a full-length, self-contained psychological horror set against the cold, isolated backdrop of Scotland, 1996.

Explore St. Amelia in 1996

Fog-soaked streets, abandoned communities, and forgotten corners tell their story through atmosphere and history. Reality and delusion subtly intertwine to lure players into the depths of the grounded, tangible world of St. Amelia.

A Brand-new, Memorable SILENT HILL

SILENT HILL: Townfall exudes the beautiful and foggy streets of Scotland, offering a new setting to tell a unique and haunting story. More than just a horror game, this is a tale of introspection, loss, and consequence. Fear grows from small details, quiet moments, and the long shadow of Simon's past.

Strategic Stealth and Combat

Swing and block with melee weapons in frenetic melee combat, or keep your distance and use firearms to survive.

Choose how to engage in each encounter, using both the tools at your disposal and the environment around you.

Beyond fighting or fleeing, carefully sneak past danger through stealth, tracking enemy positions from cover or luring them away with distractions.

Narrative Puzzles Guided by the CRTV

The iconic SILENT HILL radio makes a comeback as the CRTV, a portable television device.

Threats lurking nearby, story fragments, & mysterious clues drift through unstable analog signals, which players can pick up by tuning the CRTV.

Through narrative-driven puzzles closely tied to these fragments, players can relive past events and catch glimpses of everyday life in town, remaining constantly aware of the story.

A First-Person SILENT HILL Experience

The first full-length SILENT HILL game to be presented in first-person perspective, players experience the fog-shrouded town directly through the eyes of Simon.

With limited visibility and a heightened sense of proximity to danger, stealth, combat, exploration and the CRTV feel intimate, close and terrifying.

Multiple Endings

Endings shaped by the player’s actions leave a lasting emotional impression long after the story comes to an end.

Tension-Building Audio Design & Music

Every creak, signal, and cry pulls the danger closer, with creative audio design building a rich and terrifying soundscape.

A fully dynamic soundtrack by Pilotpriest builds and twists with player and enemy actions, reacting and building tension and release with the ebb and flow of action and stealth.

The game has finally been updated!

REVIEW UPDATE [2026-10-27]: I have raised my rating from three stars to four stars now that the missing Patch has been brought to GOG. If they ever bring the the pre-order bonus, which GOG users were not given the chance to acquire, I will raise my rating further. ----- ORIGINAL REVIEW BELOW [2026-10-09]: First of all, the GOG version is outdated on release: GOG: 1.4.153829 Steam: 1.5.154194 Secondly, Konami are once again depriving GOG users of the pre-order bonus, despite releasing on GOG with merely a two week delay and charging FULL PRICE. If they were going to release this game on GOG so close to the global release, they should have allowed GOG users to pre-order too! Alternatively, they should have supplied the pre-order bonus as a day one purchase award! Minus one star for not supplying the latest build to GOG! Minus one star for not providing GOG users with a chance to acquire the pre-order bonus! What an insulting release! I will update this review if they fix anything at all.

Silent Hill:OutlastEdition(Scottish DLC)

I originally played Silent Hill: Townfall on Steam, but grabbed it here on GOG hoping a clean, standalone install without an extra store client running in the background would smooth out the performance. Visually, the game looks great with its heavy fog and lighting effects, but the PC optimization is pretty barebones. Just like the Silent Hill 2 Remake at launch, this game is plagued by annoying shader stutter and sudden frame drops whenever you load into a new room. Running it directly via the local executable without Steam's overlay helps a tiny bit with stability, but it won’t save you from the engine's built-in optimization flaws or the broken NVIDIA Reflex setting that tanks your GPU usage until you turn it off. It is a shame about the tech issues, because the developers completely nailed the classic Silent Hill psychological atmosphere. Moving the setting to a bleak, fog-drenched 1990s Scottish fishing village works incredibly well. The sound design is fantastic, and the retro 90s tech puzzles are easily the best part of the game. Messing with the handheld analog CRTV device to tune into radio frequencies and decrypt clues feels really satisfying and tactile—honestly capturing a much truer Silent Hill identity than Silent Hill f. The real dealbreaker here is the actual gameplay loop, which is full of budget jank. Unlike the heavy, satisfying combat of the SH2 Remake or the weapon-focused action expected in Silent Hill f, Townfall forces you into passive, boring stealth mechanics like Alien: Isolation. Weapons break almost instantly, ammo is non-existent, and you spend way too much time crouched behind boxes waiting for stupid enemy AI paths to clear. There is an unkillable stalker enemy that completely kills the pacing and turns what should be scary tension into an incredibly tedious chore. If you loved the SH2 Remake's story but hated its technical hiccups, Townfall gives you that same great horror atmosphere, but forces you to drag yourself through painful hide-and-seek gameplay to see it.

I mean, it's alright.

It's pretty, but felt like I was just playing another Unreal Engine horror title. It's kind of Silent Hill in name only. Besides that, there are times where the gameplay and exploration are really tight and I am loving it. Then it slows down. The designers want you to use the portable tv as a means of playing stealthy but it's more fun to just shoot things or bash them in the face with a pipe. In other words, you will have more fun if you don't hoard your ammo. So if you like horror, I'd say give it a buy. But don't expect a real Silent Hill experience. Trust me, it's "Silent Hill" in name only and I mean that. And if you don't like it, don't tell any of the new "fans" because you'll have your "Silent Hill" credentials taken and house set ablaze. LOL

Not the best, not the worst

This feels like an overcorrection to Silent Hill f. SHf was combat focused, SHT (what an unfortunate acronym) is stealth focused. Which shouldn’t be a problem, but they linked the ending to how stealthy you are. This is the game’s biggest problem. If they didn’t force you to play the game a specific way, it’d be much better received. But this is Silent Hill. It’s more about the story. Most of the time SH games have a very vague story right up until the end where the twist recontextualizes everything. That doesn’t really happen here. As you play, more of the story is revealed, but there’s never a huge twist. It's a good story, but more a slow burn than a sudden revelation.

A great game, marred by crashing

I have to admit: my history with Silent Hill is shorter than most. I played the first one on PS3 for all of about 30 minutes before I got frustrated with the combat. It was only last year that I played Silent Hill f and Silent Hill 2 Remake here on GoG that I got another taste. And suddenly the Silent Hill secret sauce really clicked for me. To me, the essence of the Silent Hill franchise is in the secrets and dark emotions of the protagonist, and how the setting (the town of Silent Hill, usually) ruthlessly lays them bare. The protagonist wants to swallow their feelings of guilt, or shame, or sorrow, and embrace some form of delusion about themselves, and the setting simply won't let them. Their inner darkness is laid bare in front of them, often with increasingly violent urgency, until they can deny it no longer. The town itself begins to feel like a character - the true villain, or arguably, the true hero of the piece. It watches you, judges you for all of your actions, and finally assigns you the ending it thinks you deserve. There truly are no other horror games like Silent Hill. I knew Townfall was a Silent Hill game instantly. No, the location is not the town of Silent Hill, but I felt it there, watching me, in the shadows, pulling me towards the heart of darkness. The atmosphere is incredible, and I just want to know more. Plus the CRT TV is an excellent twist on the radio, telling you not just when monsters are nearby, but allowing you to track them - which is good, because they are faster than they have been in other games, and stealth is important. As you might be able to guess, I haven't finished the game. The fact is, unfortunately, there is a bit of bug standing in my way: the game has a crashing issue affecting AMD graphics cards. The issue seems to be fixable by disabling raytracing, but the game looks so gorgeous with it on, I've decided to wait for a fix before I continue (and I plan to adjust my score once it is fixed). So, let me say, despite what some say, I definitely consider this is a Silent Hill game. That said, what you've heard is correct: the game expects (and in later parts, demands) that you use stealth. This is a departure from other Silent Hill games. More shallowly, the setting, like with Silent Hill f, is not the actual town of Silent Hill. I didn't find either detail particularly important - as I said, the atmosphere is Silent Hill to a tee, and gave me all the same feels. It's not the masterpiece that number 2 was (what is?), but it's an excellent game in its own right. And once I can actually play it without it crashing, my score will reflect this! Also, in response to SargonAelther's review, the latest patch just dropped. It now puts GoG at 1.5.154194. No pre-order bonuses, but honestly, screw pre-order bonuses. They dangle trivial cosmetics in front of us, so we pay them the MOST money, and also beta test their product for free. Their value is usually roughly inversely proportional to the game's perceived critical reception, and its review embargo period. They are never worth the money, and mostly about suckering people into impulse buying before reading reviews.
