This is such a good game, singleplayer, multiplayer, it's beautiful and one of the best Lord of the rings games to ever exist. Finding Gollum with the ring and getting Galadriel in the fight as some sort of the god creature capable of taking down armies on her own! It is also reminicent of the old guard of RTS games, like World of Warcraft 3 and Cossacks, I love this game so much. I have a physical copy of the deluxe edition I got from Ebay about 15 years ago for £20, I dread to think how much that could be worth now, without being able to really use it. Same games life, save games that are great, like this one! lukecoates1234

It was the first PC game after AOE II that I really liked. Was the time of MMORPGs and having a game on my PC for me alone with no obligations to anybody was what I really needed. Great story and more or less short PVE battles (depends on the map size and the number of enemies you chose). I still own the old DVD and sometimes I can get it running on my Win 11 machine, but in just as many occasions it won't run. So having the chance to download the game would be much appreciated.

one of my favorite rts games from my younger days, Lots of nostalgia and loved the game and gave a lot of flavor to lord of the rings lore that only true nerds know.
This has to be on GOG, has to be preserved for the future. I remember playing long hours on this since my childhood. Probably one of my favourite Strategy game apart from Men of War Assault Squad II, and Total War Empire II.
This is my all-time favorite RTS — The Lord of the Rings: The Battle for Middle-earth. I first discovered it when I was about six years old, watching my older brother play in complete awe while I impatiently waited for my turn. Those moments felt magical, and the game left a mark on me that never faded. Now, 20 years later, it still brings back a flood of warm childhood memories. I would be beyond happy to see it added to GOG so I can relive those unforgettable feelings and experience that magic all over again. I would also absolutely love to see The Lord of the Rings: The Battle for Middle-earth II and its expansion The Rise of the Witch-king added as well — having the full trilogy available in one place would be a dream come true.
Played this on the Xbox 360 (until EA switched off the servers) and genuinely believe it to be the best RTS I have ever played. For context, i am comparing it to the majority of the Command and Conquer games, Age of Empires and Star Craft, all of which I have played. I believe this game to be superior because of its excellent balance and variety of the many factions and units, spells, research, etc. There is also something about how it connects with Lord of the Rings universe, even more deeply than the films do, making the game light hearted, fun and serious, all at the same time. The mechanics of the RTS itself, with hero characters bringing their unique dimension, just make this RTS full of different, relatively easy to learn, ways to play. I read that the PC version of this game also allowed a player to create their own hero characters as well, which just expands on that awesomeness. The campaign was a great in depth unique Lord of the rings story, but where this game truly shines is in the multiplayer and me and my friend sunk so many hours in to teaming up and battling people from the other side of the world. Because the game designers seemed to factor in Peter Jackson's film interpretation of the books, you feel you are playing an extension of that great film trilogy, with familiar looks and sounds. However, the game designers also brought more characters and units to life that exist in the books, but did not make it in to Peter Jackson's films. The large number of the different playable factions are in no way a gimmick, existing as the different races, operating in completely different ways, with them being very well thought out and balanced for multiplayer. I think GOG should bring this back because I truly believe it is in a league of its own for the RTS genre and because it is a Lord of Rings game that has been made with respect to the source material, it also brings a very rich universe to really enjoy diving in to.
So many memores of this exellent RTS based on LOTR. From fun units like Tom Bombabil and Wormtongue in the sequel. It even played pretty good on console so I hope it returns soon.

one of the best lotr games ever made. yeah it was EA before it get greedy. but a masterpiece needs a place in this big world of games. If there is a little chance, we need to take them.
Battle of the middle earth II reminds me my childhood back when i discovered the genre with age of empires i directly fall in love with this type of game over the evrything else
One of my most beloved games. Gameplay is great, it is definitely one of the best RTS all time. Easy economics, nothing too complicated. Would love to have some version that works with multiplayer.
Those games also need your vote!

Black & White 2
Black & White 2In the game, the player takes the role of a god called from the void (nothingness) to help those who invoked them. However, the player is not an omnipotent style god, but rather a god who rises and falls with his believers and the player must help develop their nature according to their good or evil desires. The player also has a creature, their physical representation in the world, which takes the form of an anthropomorphic ape, lion, wolf, turtle, cow, or tiger. Its physical manifestation can grow to an immense size, and adopt a good or evil persona separate of the player's. They develop their character as the player rewards or punishes their actions. In addition to the god simulation and city-building elements introduced in the original Black & White, Black & White 2 also features elements of real-time strategy gameplay, with the addition of controllable warfare and fighting units.
