SILENT HILL: Townfall
Players' stories
We had Silent Hill 2 remake and Silent Hill F on GOG. it only make sense to have Silent Hill Townfall there as well. i want to support this game on my favorite platform, so hopefully we will get it here
I just started watching a playthrough of SH Townfall and maaaaan this game looks beautiful. The atmosphere, writing, music, and art direction, all had me hooked in the first 5 minutes. It would be a pleasure to experience this on GOG myself and really be able to sink my teeth into what Townfall has to offer. I've always been a fan of the multifaceted characters and stories that come from the Silent Hill franchise and this looks no different. An absolute must have on GOG
The latest SHs did get a release on GOG, so this town must fall here as well! Or we riot! :P Uh 160 characters, well, I wish I had SH2R and SHF on GoG, but I have them on the plattform with the turbine engine, preordered. But this time I WAIT. 😀

Description

Simon Ordell is called back to the island of St. Amelia to ‘put things right’, encountering a town lying quiet beneath a heavy fog, seemingly abandoned but not at rest.

Venturing deeper, and driven to understand his connection to the place and its inhabitants, Simon begins to discover fragments of a past rising to the surface.

Experienced entirely in first person, Simon must explore, evade, and survive using a limited set of weapons and tools, including the CRTV, a pocket television used to tune into unstable signals. Evasion is tense; combat is frenetic, while narrative driven puzzles reveal a truth that refuses to stay submerged.

SILENT HILL: Townfall is a full-length, self-contained psychological horror set against the cold, isolated backdrop of Scotland, 1996.

Explore St. Amelia in 1996

Fog-soaked streets, abandoned communities, and forgotten corners tell their story through atmosphere and history. Reality and delusion subtly intertwine to lure players into the depths of the grounded, tangible world of St. Amelia.

A Brand-new, Memorable SILENT HILL

SILENT HILL: Townfall exudes the beautiful and foggy streets of Scotland, offering a new setting to tell a unique and haunting story. More than just a horror game, this is a tale of introspection, loss, and consequence. Fear grows from small details, quiet moments, and the long shadow of Simon's past.

Strategic Stealth and Combat

Swing and block with melee weapons in frenetic melee combat, or keep your distance and use firearms to survive.

Choose how to engage in each encounter, using both the tools at your disposal and the environment around you.

Beyond fighting or fleeing, carefully sneak past danger through stealth, tracking enemy positions from cover or luring them away with distractions.

Narrative Puzzles Guided by the CRTV

The iconic SILENT HILL radio makes a comeback as the CRTV, a portable television device.

Threats lurking nearby, story fragments, & mysterious clues drift through unstable analog signals, which players can pick up by tuning the CRTV.

Through narrative-driven puzzles closely tied to these fragments, players can relive past events and catch glimpses of everyday life in town, remaining constantly aware of the story.

A First-Person SILENT HILL Experience

The first full-length SILENT HILL game to be presented in first-person perspective, players experience the fog-shrouded town directly through the eyes of Simon.

With limited visibility and a heightened sense of proximity to danger, stealth, combat, exploration and the CRTV feel intimate, close and terrifying.

Multiple Endings

Endings shaped by the player’s actions leave a lasting emotional impression long after the story comes to an end.

Tension-Building Audio Design & Music

Every creak, signal, and cry pulls the danger closer, with creative audio design building a rich and terrifying soundscape.

A fully dynamic soundtrack by Pilotpriest builds and twists with player and enemy actions, reacting and building tension and release with the ebb and flow of action and stealth.

Good, Spooky Time

Played through it on steam already, but I really enjoyed it. Good puzzles, the whole thing is dripping with a dreadful, spooky atmosphere, and I thought the story was interesting enough to keep me pushing through. Pick it up, play with the lights off

Silent Hill Downfall...

If Silent Hill was removed from the title and you just called it Townfall, you’d be hard-pressed to relate the two. This game’s DNA is more outlast/Alient Isolation than it is Silent Hill. So as a Silent Hill title? It falls flat. As an independent title devoid of the Silent Hill moniker? It’s still crap. Boring as hell, nothing scary at all, and very simple puzzles. To top it off there's far too many cutscenes. (oh and the combat sucks) If you are interested, buy it on sale. Don't pay full price.

Worst Silent Hill game by far

I played the Steam version on release, surprisingly had none of the stutters people were complaining about though. The atmosphere and soundtrack are perfect however that's where the praise ends, the gameplay is tedious and repetitive and also just turns into a jumpscare simulator towards the end. Never let Screen Burn touch the franchise again.

The Silent Hill PhenoMah-Nà - Mah-Nà

The more cultured among you surely recognize the reference to this song, most notably the parody done by The Muppets in 1976. Since this is what the series has become, a parody, this farcical song is what comes to mind whenever the discussion pops up of “Silent Hill doesn’t have to take place in Silent Hill to be Silent Hill”. I giggle. Then I vomit in my mouth a little upon witnessing the invocation of a new buzz term coined by corporate: “The Silent Hill Phenomenon”. Multiverse cop-out terms have been thrown around in pathetically desperate attempts to resurrect the relevancy of a broken IP. It was only a matter of time before SH would succumb to it as well. And as with most "en saison" slogans adopted by collectivists, it too has become a quaint motto for this newer generation of fans to mindlessly repeat ad infinitum, as if to convince themselves. You see, dear valued reader, multi-billion-dollar production houses have persuaded some errr specimen out there, that a game called Silent Hill doesn’t have to take place inside the actual town of Silent Hill because of “The Silent Hill PhenoMah-Nà Mah-Nà”. Miraculously, the titular town’s spiritual power can just magically project internationally. Let me translate this for the uninitiated. This is corporate speak for “Honestly, we have no idea what to do next or what it’s even about at this point, so we’ll pretend the story can stretch out into the farthest corners of the universe by handing over the reins to a new dev with each new entry. That way we can still smear our logo faeces on it and you’ll buy it regardless.” I hope everyone is still following along? Great. See, in this manner they can get away with having the next SH spin-off taking place inside the Star Trek universe because, well whatever, "PhenoMah-Nà!", so the hipsters have a shot at calling it an avant-garde genre-bending masterpiece that is somehow still canonical, in the same way that farting on a snare-drum is an artistic act that can be classified as trip-hop. Even now that the subject matter of the series has shifted to industrial catastrophes and the lives they’ve taken, and it’s set all the way in Scotland. Somehow, allegedly, it still is “a Silent Hill game through and through”. Dixit mainstream reviews. Gameplay. Well, buckle up Dorothy because since we’re throwing all logic, accountability, and series lore overboard, Townfall now features exactly what this series needed. Can you guess what it is? That’s right, a stealth mechanic. I mean, come on, it is [CURRENT YEAR]. We need at least stealth mechanics to artificially stretch out the runtime of bloated mainstream games. This one serves to evade poorly designed monsters that look like they were too good for Downpour, now patrolling the streets back & forth in a predictable pattern like they're expecting Solid Snake to infiltrate St. Amelia any minute now. Is crouching whilst relying on Townfall’s CRTV Batman Detective Mode not quite your pace? Fear not, oh impatient one, for ““Silent Hill”” now has a full-blown badass FPS chapter as well. That’s right, Johnny. Double barrel shotgun action, baby. I thought I was playing F.E.A.R. for a good minute there. DOOM Slayer eat your heart out. ““Silent Hill”” is where it’s at now. Cringe. What were they thinking? Furthermore, what kind of audience are they after? Have fans’ standards dropped so sharply over the decades to deem this as “a Silent Hill game through and through”? Y’know what, to hell with it, “PhenoMah-Nà!”: the next devs for hire team might as well just implement online co-op in the next ill-conceived spin-off so you can bring your sideways-baseball-cap-wearing buddies along for the ride. Sponsored by Mountain Dew & Doritos. As for the 1st person perspective itself, honestly, it’s not something that truly matters. We’ve seen Silent Hill 4 partially take on the 1st person perspective when inside the apartment. But in here lies the nuance: because of the claustrophobic angle, Henry is locked inside and we should feel the same, so this perspective makes sense. I’m somewhat divided on its usage in Townfall, but it’s mostly because I prefer old school survival horror. To me, a 3rd person perspective never gets old. I’ll label this as a personal preference but your mileage may vary. At least the graphics are truly nicely done, there is a sense of dread during the 1st play through and I found myself enjoying the puzzles quite a bit. On perhaps these fronts alone is Townfall by no means a total disaster as, say, Shattered Memories. But it all looks so… Staged. In the original games, things just happened and it was the player’s privilege to witness it - or not. Here, our eyes are guided by the storytelling equivalent of dangling a carrot in front of them. I'm tired of these things. If this is the best they can do, I’d rather have no Silent Hill ever again than any of these spin-offs. Sing with me now: mah-nà mah-nà! EDIT: To conclude on a positive note, I recommend Silver Pines, Retro Space, or even Hellraiser Revival instead of this forgettable tripe. Happy Halloween 2026, my fellow connoisseurs.

Another Outlast clone

We've been living in an era, for the past decade, where developers make games for streamers who put on a goofy face in their thumbnail and fake scream every 30 seconds. This game is no different, it's another poor attempt at re-creating Outlast where you have to run and hide from the enemy who stalks you throughout an urban environment. RE7 also went first person and also did the same, run and hide from the stalker and using a revolver and plank of wood to defend yourself. Townfall is NOT a Silent Hill game whatsoever, even the legend Yamaoka didn't return for this trash. There're no memorable characters, timeless tracks to vibe at night to, cinematic camera angles, puzzles to cheese like in the originals, no layered fog effect from the PS2 Emotion Engine chip, no goofy secret weapon or costume... this game is just a soulless attempt at capturing that first person horror craze. We want the REAL, original Team Silent Silent Hill games on GOG. 1, 2 and 3!
