Visiting the site again I was rather alarmed to find that the offline installers are called 'backups' and put away into a drop-down menu. For me, at least, these are primaries, not backups; I have no intention of using Galaxy at any point.

Offline installers are HUGE for my use case. You see, most of the games I buy on GOG are the old MS-DOS and Windows games. I transfer them over to my WinXP machine via USB stick and play them there on a CRT monitor. For the MS-DOS stuff, I usually get the original files and run them on an even older computer. I LOVE the fact that I can do this and it is probably the biggest reason why I support GOG. So please, keep this feature intact!

The offline installers are literally the only reason I transitioned from buying on Steam first to GoG first as a principle. If that ever went away, my purchases on GoG would fall through the floor.

Please continue to provide the offline installers. The only reason my last several game purchases have been through GOG and not Steam is that some recent Steam forced updates have corrupted several games in my library. I'm tired of games that used to work fine on the same computer being messed up by Steam's autoupdates (even when turned off!). I don't think I'll be buying anything off Steam again.
Keep offline installers.Do not remove them.
forever and ever
Having Offline installers for all games on the platform should be advertised as vigorously as the GoG patron program.
The main reasons why gamers buy on GOG is, in my opinion, to own a DRM free, offline, digital copy. Fixed oldies is the cherry on top.I hate subscriptions.Because subscriptions are fake rights. I also hate:- logging, profiling, - forced updates, - useless overlaysThe wording "Backup" doesn't sound ambiguous to me, in my understanding a backup is a digital copy of "something we own".
Keep the installers going I'm out without them to they are not gone but if they are being made secondary to the prinicpal of ownership I too don't feel comfortable with that they should be forefront.
yes keep offline installers
Very worrying if they stop doing this. As someone who wants to actually own and try out these classic games many of which I missed out on and can only own a copy through GOG these days, I would for sure just leave if they ever stopped providing the offline installers. The offline installers are the main draw and core of their brand and fan base if they just suddenly stopped everyone would leave for steam or emulation.
They're called "Offline backup game installers" stop trying to make a problem out of nothing and scaring people out for no reason.
Always good to express how important these are. They are the primary reason that I purchase anything on GOG at all. Being able to create solid backups ensures that I always own my games no matter what decisions GOG makes going forward. Not only that, but it also enables me to use those backups to install my games even when I'm having difficulties with my current ISP, like a lapse in payment, a bit too much rain or just not wanting to use up all of my paltry monthly allotment of data and be forced on a slower connection as punishment.
I am surprised this is even something to worry about. Offline installers are pretty much the only actual reason I come here. It would be in GOG's best interest to keep those.
I am a fan of Galaxy and of clients in general, but I certainly support keeping the offline installers. That and retro games are the primary reasons I use GOG nowadays.
I moved from Steam, after buying 3 games, I felt uncomfortable about the DRM fact and invasive nature both online and on my PC - Then I discovered you 2 days ago - Breath of FRESH AIR and I own the games and can reinstall whenever needed - Also unlike Steam - you won't suddenly take away access - BRILLIANT - THANK YOU.
I just headed over here from Steam after hearing about off-line installers. Nevermind, I'm out.
I will never again buy a singleplayer-focused game without this feature.
Agree with others. I hope to see this feature protected, even prioritized.GOG is great BECAUSE of this feature, and the preservation program, which are special goodnesses in these times.
I think the title must be changed into "provide again offline installer executables for all games". The just release DOOM Eternal DLCs must be activated via Galaxy, that means there is no real offline installer for them.
Having off-line installers is the ONLY reason I put my money here. No installers, no money - it is as simple as that. Having GOG whatever app may be a convenience for some, but it should be only an optional, nice to have thing.
If it wasn't for this feature I wouldn't of bought my entire game collection "TWICE" on GOG. This is the one and only reason I spend money here.
Yes, it's the only reason to buy from GOG. Otherwise it would be just another company in business purely to gatekeep/handle you and your access to the products you own.
I wonder the number behind the + is still so small. Just noticed that the offline installers for Project Zomboid B42 are gone. Another indicator?I really don't care about the price of a game, but I want to own it! And especially I don't want to share when and how long I play a game, or being forced to update to a specific OS version to run their crappy dataminer, although all games run fine.
Yeah literally the only reason I buy things on GoG is so I can own what I buy, barring that there's no reason for me to use this site as it's already kinda garbage compared to it's competitors
The only reason I use GoG is for the offline installers. If that goes then I go. If I want to lease games I have Steam and Epic for that.
This is extremely important, it is the soul of GoG and what people support it for.
Offline installers is the only way of really owning a game. I don't hate Steam I just hate renting games. Also GOG needs more VR games.
I supported CD Projekt Red and bought both the Witcher series and Cyberpunk directly from them. Now I see parts are missing or incorrectly labelled in my offline downloads, the whole point of DRM free copy is if GoG ever goes under you never lose access to your game or DLC but some DLC is already locked behind login bullshit. I regret buying here now. And I no longer trust them enough to continue buying here. Might as well let Valve keep my game library and get a better user experience.
Without offline installers and with DRM there is no reason to use GOG over competitors (Steam) anymore.
personally speaking, the moment GoG stop letting you install the games offline and run them offline is the moment i will never buy anything on GoG ever again.because at this point, GoG would literally just be a worse clone of steam: Galaxy acting as an always-online DRM + privacy-destroying dataminer just like steam is.only reason i came to GoG in the first place is because it's the only big-ish store that lets you -own- the game you buy, not rent them like on steam and others.remember kids, if the store (steam or whatever) have the power at any moment to block your access to games you own just by flipping a switch on your account data... then it means you didn't actually owned those games, you were only -renting- them.with GoG offline games, even if GoG goes bankrupt or goes crazy and start adding crazy DRM and stuff or make galaxy obligatory, you still have all the games you'd already downloaded and can still play them forever.this is what Owning something means and too few people seem to realize this.
Most users, including me, continue to support GOG because it provides offline installer executables and there is no launcher necessity . IF this should ever change, i am pretty sure a lot of customers would be dissatisfied.
I still remember, in my mind, how things used to be. It were the playground of the World, back then, the Internet. People from all over the World used to just hop in and enjoy themselves. We used to call it The Playground of the World the Internet back then. This would have been in the early 90's how things used to be back then. Now, things changed. I wish to see offline installers on GOG till the day I die. After that? GOG, you're free to remove everything from your webzine after I'm finished.
GOG BE GOG
I'm just now checking out GOG again since Steam ruined their store review rewards system, indicating the company is going downhill. Please don't stop being DRM-Free!
My primary intention by using GoG is to grab the offline installer cause I am an offliner. If they will ever stop that - which would mean forcing DRM similar environment, I wouldn't be interested in GoG anymore.
My primary intention by using GoG is to grab the offline installer cause I am an offliner. If they will ever stop that - which would mean forcing DRM similar environment, I wouldn't be interested in GoG anymore. But to be honest: I rather doubt they would do such a thing, they are aware of their majority are the same opinion like me abd wouldn't want to risk loosing it.BTW: I noticed, user "teckkev" is from the future. Maybe he knows for sure if 2026 GoG keeps offline installer :p
Bro, people sharing their whole life story, saying how they grandma ask them to use GOG for the offline installers right before they passed away. Like, yeah, no shit. That's their entire business model, offline installers aren't going anywhere. And if you need a big button with red arrows pointing at it that read "Download offline installer NOW" then maybe that's on you.
I buy from GoG only for the offline downloader. My retro units are offline. A month of GoG, and I already bought 60+ games for my retro units. If Galaxy is the new form, I will no longer have a need for GoG. Galaxy will NOT be on my PC ever.
Why certain games have administrative rights game is running under? with downloaded installer...
