Hellblade is the game that made me realize games can be works of art. It has marvellous storytelling and acting, plus gorgeous visuals and music. It touches a very difficult topic and rises to the challenge.

I would really like to be able to play Hellblade 2 DRM-free.

Ancient-Red-Dragon: The original initial launch week is usually when the vast majority of sales for any game take place.
avatar
BreOl72: And GOG is what? 5% to 15% (max!) of the possible sales?
I know, I know...some people will come and claim that THEY would dance naked on Times Square, if that would get them those 5% to 15%...but, you know...people say a lot, when it is not their skin on the market.

And who says it won't still sell the same number of units during GOG's launch week (when/if there is a GOG launch week)?

avatar
Ancient-Red-Dragon: By not putting it on GOG already, that means even most people who prefer GOG more than Steam are still never going to buy the game on GOG --- because they will already have bought it on Steam
avatar
BreOl72: I can't follow your logic.
I prefer GOG.
Why would I buy the game on Steam, just because it doesn't get released on GOG on the same day?

Isn't "waiting for games to get released" one of GOG customers' favourite games? /s
"Hellblade 2" is singleplayer only, correct?
So, nobody's losing out by "being late to the party" (as might be the case with online-MP games).

People who buy on Steam now, were never die hard GOG customers in the first place.
Dragon is right

If a game gets a Day 1 release AND the dev/pub included GOG in its marketing so GOG users all know well in advance that the game is coming to GOG, it will sell about 8%.

A few games like the newest Leisure Suit Larry sold %15, and some get a little less. But 8% is what GOG supportive developers agree is "about right".

If a game is delayed OR if the developer doesn't push their GOG release then sales are much lower. The reason No More Robots no longer sell on GOG is because they were getting less than 1.5% of sales via GOG... even day 1. Because they didn't advertise a GOG release. No one knew their games were coming to GOG.

The really painful truth for GOG is that even though about 8% of PC gamer would rather buy on GOG, only 10% of their customer base is like you and me. The vast majority of Goglodytes will buy on Steam if they believe there is no timely GOG release coming. A few may double dip, but they not many.

Delayed and and unadvertised GOG releases are killing GOG's bottom line.

EverNightX: I hear it's a 5 hour game where you basically walk in straight line.
That's 1 year of development per hour of gameplay.
I think they are the next studio to be closed by MS.
Most people don't care about about games being short in length and still being sold for top dollar anyway.

Although I agree with you that this is not necessarily a good value for the dollar, that doesn't change the fact that this game is going to be very lucrative for the devs who made it and also for the stores that sell it whilst it is new & hot & fresh.

And likewise for the Hellblade games being very linear and having limited gameplay; most customers of this game don't care about that either. Just like how most customers of Witcher 3 don't care about the fact that it has abysmally bad play control which wrecks the gameplay really badly...yet it's still one of the highest-selling games of all-time despite the fact that it has horrible gameplay.

honglath: Helldivers 2 is..

rtcvb32: Yeah i thought it was helldivers too... then i reread the subject.
Me three, and I was amazed that the second message "claimed" GOG has the first Helldivers game...

I didn't even recall the name of the game was "Hellblade", I always thought of it as "Senua's Sacrifice".
you'r either hentai horney, super office worker or depraved indie... in this place

Of course there's always the left-overs that forgot that they were not invited, came in too late and forgot(2dtime) to leave at the end :p
A day one DRM-free release was off the table the moment Ninja Theory sold themselves off to Microsoft, as was Ninja Theory's say on which platforms Hellblade 2 would be released on.

Probably still going to launch on GOG at some point in the future and with a better, fairer price for reportedly 5 hours of 'gameplay', I'm in no hurry to pick it up as soon as possible in any case.
The publisher is Xbox Game Studios. The chance of Hellblade 2 showing up on Gog are slim at best.
Expect most games to come to GOG way later, if they actually want to bring it here to GOG.

Namely, expect after the dev's get their DRM-version out, patch the game up, complete it with all content and patches - then you might see a GOG version.

When they do port it GOG and maybe re-work it for Galaxy if need be to make those DRM-free GOG-version fans, so they don't really got to deal much w/ GOG's patch curation process while the game's active. Just....re-release it later to GOG later.

Gotta get that Steam-version and GOG-version double-dip, you know?
