I posted this proposal, for Stadia to provide some DRM-free options:
https://www.reddit.com/r/Stadia/comments/b977ex/proposal_for_google_stadia_provide_drmfree/

But it's surprising, the thread was flooded with so many DRM proponents. I suppose they represent legacy publishers' side. Feel free to comment there and show some DRM-free support :)

I just want this streaming abomination gone and advocating drm free from Google, sure right. It isn't going to happen though since everyone seem to want a slice of the streaming business Google, Nvidia, Amazon, Microsoft even Walmart and the list goes on.

I'm not sure why Stadia of all things would provide DRM free stuff though since it's the most draconian drm there is, always online and streamed from Googles own servers.

How... would DRM-free even work with a streaming based service?

You can read the proposal, it answers your question ;)

I read a bit of it, it just didn't really seem compatible with my current understanding of streaming gaming services.
'Buy a game (let's say Linux build with Vulkan support and all, but compatible with desktop Linux) and download DRM-free version.'

I mean this is the stark opposite to the whole angle they're going for. It's also based off far too many assumptions and broad requests.

It doesn't hurt to propose and express your demand for it. Otherwise DRM proponents will have easy time saying "you see, no one needs it, and no one asked".

That's the whole point. You, like many, assume streaming = renting. That doesn't have to be that way, which is explained In that thread with examples.

Google employees themselves said, to send them proposals. So, why not. Instead of saying it's impossible, show some support for the idea with your comments and upvotes, or propose even better ideas yourself ;)

If you support DRM-free gaming, you already agree in concept. If you don't like implementation details, not an issue either. Feel free to comment with better ways to do it.

If everyone will say "there is no point", I'd have to agree with DRM proponents that no one needs it. Which would be a weird surprise, given we are all here GOG users who prefer DRM-free games.

But you are also assuming we have interest in or even WANT stadia around, I don't. I don't trust google and if this become successful and filled with money (even your drm-free version) then it means we are going to see a shift into "streaming" titles and I would rather avoid that.

Whether we want it around or not doesn't matter much, since it's already coming. So proposing it to offer DRM-free games is good for those who prefer DRM-free, isn't it? If you don't do anything, it will roll into full renting / streaming, also having an excuse that no one even bothered to ask for anything else, so "no one needs it".

I enjoy DRM-Free gaming, but i'm not exclusive to it. I won't give you the lowdown of my history but i am very much for the preservation of video games as shown in my twitter/articles/stream.

But in this case mate, i truly think the things you suggest are far too broad given the struggles this level of streaming will need to tackle in the first place.

what you were talking about sounds far more relevant to Utomik

yeah but remote streaming is inherently a drm system you cannot just un-drm it because you want to, nothing is being handled on your end, everything is being controlled via the "cloud" and since this is google, that makes me even more nervous.
But why do you need the Google servers at all? Once you've bought it DRM free you could stream it yourself on your local network.

Did you even read the thread? It offers a clear example how to un-DRM it.

Convenience, more powerful backend, and so on. Not everyone has a major server at home to stream from. I see a benefit there.
