Help us de-mystify the ambitious new Cyan adventure.

Obduction®, the upcoming first-person puzzle/exploration adventure from the makers of the legendary Myst series is just around the corner. Now is the perfect time for a Q&A session with Cyan but we need your help to make it happen! So let's put our collective minds together and come up with some awesome questions about this beautiful, alien world.

In Obduction®, a fateful encounter with an organic artifact that fell from the sky transports us to a distant world that feels both completely alien and strangely familiar. As if a slice of Earth lodged itself inside a surreal landscape full of giant pieces of machinery, unknown technology, and strange creatures. While trying to make sense of this mysterious place and our purpose in it, we'll gradually uncover adjacent worlds, harboring their own mysteries and echoes of previous inhabitants.

As a true spiritual successor to Myst, Obduction® relies on similar storytelling and world-building techniques, so expect FMV actors inside breathtaking environments. Earlier this year, PC Gamer nominated the game for Best of E3 saying that: "Obduction is shaping up to be a great first-person puzzle game."
In an interview with them, Rand Miller, CEO of Cyan, said that they hope to give players that same sense of bewilderment and wondrous discovery as the original Myst inspired, all these years ago.
Game Informer also expects that "Die-hard fans of this style of game have a lot to look forward to, as it's the closest to the original title in form and function that I've seen".

Naturally, the game has caught everyone's eye thanks to its stunning, Unreal 4-powered visuals and the game's VR version has also received high praise from various outlets who got to try it on Oculus Rift.

Want to know more about Obduction®? Get ready to hit Cyan with your questions for our next week's Q&A session! Since this is an exploration-driven experience, learning about the story this early on would spoil the fun but there's plenty more to talk about, like the creative process, the various inspirations, the tech, or anything else you can think of!

So, GOGers, post your questions here until Friday, August 19, and with them we'll forge a sturdy key that will help us unlock more of the game's intriguing secrets!

I am really intrigued by a new game coming from Cyan. I see that the game is developed for Windows and Mac. Is a linux version in development plans, too?
To my German ears, the name of the game still makes it sound like a horror game.
Oh that Myst-y game that feels like it's been in development for decades.
Robyn and Rand!

In a world where VR is somehow actually salable and functional (unlike the last few times it was supposed to be), do you feel that all games/experiences you create from now on will be made with VR in mind? In other words, if it maybe seemed like a novelty around the time MYST was released, do you foresee being informed by its potential from now on?
I wonder if they regard accessibility in any way, so people with weaker eyesight (or hearing, or other disabilities) are taken in account when designing the game.
Q: How was the kickstarter process compared to before (doing things your own way rather than what a publisher wanted)?
Q: How is Obduction different from your other games (including Uru Online)?
Q: How does the Oculus Rift add to the gameplay?
Q: Can we expect DLC ?
Q: Is it true that J.J. Abrams is directing the Myst movie (due out Summer 2018)?
Hi devs.
I always thought that MYST was hard and tough, unfriendly for kids/teens and challenging as all. I got stuck at the very beginning and, since then, the series (albeit highly praised or, better yet... well it's a landmark of a game!) remain almost untouched, with ocasional casual plays here and there in aprox. two decades; yep.

Now, several years later, games in the genre are much more "accessible" and some things such as memorization don't play a major role for impatient kiddos such as moi ;)

Nevertheless, I'm excited about this release, since I loved recent games such as DREAM and I saw a friend digging and enjoying himself a lot with Niko: Through the Dream. The game got amazing visuals, crazy settings and animation; well, not to mention the brilliance of modern day gems such as Ether One, Vanishing of Ethan Carter, Kairo, Fract, The Witness, Antichamber and many more.
So many exploration/puzzle games these days, huh?

Will the gigantic team behind something so huge such as MYST bring us another memorable game and, at the same time, not scare the beginners?

Thanks and best of luck!! ;D

ps: I think it will!

edit: just saw the requirements. Guess I'll have to wait another 20 years, but for other reasons ;D
edit#2: seriously now, the screenshots and video look AMAZING...!

The Myst games were perfect for kids and teens, assuming you actually liked thinking at that age. I look forward to seeing what this is and how the story unfolds.
Looks interesting and will get it for sure but how does it need 16GB or ram & a 970?

I seen games like vanishing of ethan carter run on a gtx 670 with 4GB or ram and look a little better than this :/

I hope you guys can optimize this to at least run on 8GB tops
I think my question is
Will the VR version be available via GoG?

Wut?

Nah, I was one of these ;P
As Cyan has tried to make a game local and loyal to the petigree of your number one game Myst.

How do You feel this stacks up to that series, especially the first game in the series, which almost all the games tried to build on the foundation of?

++ Obduction was the result of kickstart backing, did this change the development of the game seeing as you had to not rewrite something promised to your backers? ++

And my biggest question: ++ Why make a new interactive world now, it has been clearly a long time since the Cyan team has put out a new title?++ Example; except for updates, translations and a remaster to games you put out over a decade ago, there has been no titles released from your studio,at all in that time.

++So, where have you all been and what has gone on?++ Your fans would like to know.

P.S. I for one found the myst series of programs to be one of the Best First person story driven, adventure/puzzle games made. Thank you for trying your hands at making some thing classic to my childhood and new for the gamers since then.
How book heavy is Obduction, considering the history of Cyan?
Around April 2014 Link, The possibility of a Linux version was mentioned, it's been over 2 years since that statement, has any progress been made and will it be available on Day-1?

Thanks
