Hi all,

I know this is an old topic, but I just ran across a thread from 2017 (?!?) claiming that GoG was planning on including the option to install Galaxy in their offline installers. To make matters worse, the option would be defaulted to checked. The original post claims to link to a list of all games with this "feature," but that link is, unsurprisingly, dead. What became of this? Was it ever implemented? Is there a list of affected games out there? Thanks for helping out an old fart who (apparently) lives under a rock...:)

It was implemented at the time, then they removed it following the backlash.
I was hoping that was the case. Is there a list of titles that DID have that nonsense on it (so I can check my games list). or was it stopped before it ever reached the offline downloads?

You mean from this thread? From what I remember all the games affected (a few hundred) had offline installers whose names ended in a (g). They've long been removed. It was the same era where they did their best to hide the non Galaxy ones behind a sub-menu behind 'More'. Thankfully the whole lot was reverted due to backlash.

Too bad they can't bother to revert the installers fully back, or you know, use an installer format that doesn't feel like applying a sledgehammer to the surface of a disk drive.
I think if you now click "launch" after installing, it will still try to install Galaxy, right?
At least if it IS installed, it will start it. To make sure Galaxy is not adressed, click "exit" after installing.
The Windows offline installers include a part of Galaxy to do the installing, and it's a big enough part that pressing "Launch" immediately after installing will be able to talk to that instance of Galaxy as if Galaxy was installed. There's been at least one buggy game that could only run if Galaxy was installed, but which also ran from the installer's Launch button.

Reported that to the dev the same week as Unity declared that they were going to claim fees per reinstall ... . Unity have now backtracked a lot, so while I wouldn't trust them, I don't feel bad about revealing that workaround to the game's bug.

I am not so sure if our complaints had anything to do with that, when it is far more likely that even CDP Group's upper management could not live in denial forever about how hiding the offline installer under a small online installer for the client was more than enough to trick most customers to download and install the client while also a lot more efficient and less expensive than creating a client included duplicate for every update for each game.

No, it does not. It only starts the game, as expected.

That might be true, I never installed it so would not be able to check,

To make sure Galaxy is not run, never install it in the first place ;)

That's incorrect. Despite the rest of neumi5694's post being incorrect, clicking "launch" from the installer does result in the game talking to Galaxy, even when Galaxy isn't installed.
Thanks everyone. This is what I was hoping (that they backed off from that position). I Have never seen an option (checkbox) in any of my installers, and do not use the "Launch Now" button as I want to customize the launch method (shortcut). Also, since I use bottles in a Linux system, even if I were to accidentally install Galaxy, it is an easy fix: I simply delete the bottle and start over. Thanks again!
I just downloaded 2 games off GOG (Crysis warehead and Just Case).. they both insist of installing GOG galaxy when trying to install it (off line installs). That has happened to GOG !! Galaxy needs Windows 8 so what happens if i want to install it on win 7 machine or lower? Far out...

On top of that it is ignoring my off line downloads and has re-downloaded the game gain.

Just did some checking, the offline installer do NOT work at all if you do not have an internet connection. They try to launch galaxy and that works but obviously fails to connect and fails to re-download gain.

This needs to be flagged to a wider GOG community.

What you are describing seems to be the typical case of "big blue misleading button syndrome", been there as well.
Check attached print.

Please double-check that you are running the correct offline setup files.

The offline installer of Crysis Warhead (English, Windows) consists of 3 files:
setup_crysis_warhead_2.0.0.5.exe
setup_crysis_warhead_2.0.0.5-1.bin
setup_crysis_warhead_2.0.0.5-2.bin

The EXE file itself has a size of 27,367,288 bytes.
If the file is named/ sized differently, you probably clicked on the "wrong" download... (see Dark Art's explanation above)
