Not to Steam. Yes, you GOG :)
If I really wanna play it, I'll get it on Steam but I usually wait for a sale. If I have the game on Steam and it comes out on GOG and I really loved it, I'll rebuy it. I re-bought Deus Ex, FEAR, and the Unreal series even though I have the Steam versions and even boxed copies. I love the fact that I'll have an up to date version of my favorite games that I can keep forever and don't have to worry about having internet to play or the service shutting down.

Dzsono: What happened?

rtcvb32: A long list of steam refusing to let me play games unless i registered the downloaded games on another computer, which i was avoiding the steam client, as well as trying not to be forced to re-download 2Gb+ games when i already had them. Perhaps some of those could have been avoided by backing up licenses or stuff through the steam howtos, but why i should need to is stupid; Not to mention i never actually played them so i don't think i actually had the digital licenses in the first place (instead i zipped the app directory in my steam folder and transferring it over the local network...)

Then there's the annoyances of games that when they aren't happy with you and you force them to load, they happily load.... in demo mode...
Yup, I hear you. The client is janky, at best. Anything proprietary that keeps you at arm's length for the sake of "ease of use" will frustrate intermediate users and above.

Yeah, but i got slapped with it over and over and over again which showed off how much DRM was in the system. Some games worked wonderfully with no modification (Dungeons of Dredmore for example), but most of the Calypso catalog and Skyrim and others...
WOAH! A Steam thread on GOG?! That's a new one!

You want the game? Go get it. Steam games go on sale so frequently and so often, combine that with Steam keys at Humble Bundle, GamersGate, GMG and BundleStars and you'll grow a library of games for dirt cheap.

That sounds like Steam's CEG getting cranky that you fiddled with stuff. Naughty, naughty ;)
I've boycotted steam since forever. If there is a game on there I would love, well I use other means to get my hands on it. Or I just wait forever until it gets on GOG. If it doesn't, then I am not buying it. I always get my games drm free one way or another... I'll gladly purchase the game, but only if I can get it drm free. Such is the harsh life of a only-gog supporter.
Man, that sweet-ass game is available only on Steam! Crap! I don't really want to go that route but... oh wait, I have this giant backlog of other stuff to play, so maybe that title will show up DRM-free elsewhere - and a lot cheaper - and with the bugs worked out - sometime down the road. In the meantime, I'll play some of these other titles I've been meaning to enjoy.

Problem solved.
If you really want to support GOG, write Gearbox and tell them that you'll buy the game if it appears on GOG, then wait and hope this happens. Just waiting (or doing what Senteria does) doesn't tell the dev/publisher anything.

Yes, naughty me for wanting to try the game on another system that actually could handle the graphics with a video card that was powerful enough, and not wanting to be forced to add steam to it to make it run... Reminds me, i'll add Calypso to my blacklist...
To Steam. And to GOG. And Uplay. Origin. Desura. Humble Bundle. Groupees. Gamersgate and all the other distribution services I use.

I really don't see the point to boycott anything, they're just games.

They're games, but they if they contain something you want to discourage (DRM) or are sold by a company whose practices you dislike, then it makes sense not to buy them.

Zookie: I am a big fan of GOG. It is by far my favorite digital distribution site. But Steam has always, and is likely to remain so for the foreseeable future, the 800 pound gorilla in the room. What do you do if there is a game on Steam that you really want but you are unable to get it elsewhere? I have never thought much about this until the Homeworld Remastered release.

Do you just buy it on Steam and just let the lost potential revenue for GOG to be a motivator to add the titles that are being bought up at other distributors?

Do you buy on Steam and then later, if GOG gets it, buy it again to support GOG to support its DRM free philosophy and its focus on resurrecting old games?

Or do you refuse to support Steam and just hold out and buy the game you want when it shows up on GOG or another a less draconian distributor? Regardless of the time it takes?
You know how the fight between David and Goliath ended, don't you?

Smannesman: I just buy what I want where I want, which is often Steam and sometimes GOG.
This.

To Steam. I never understood nor supported the "DRM Free" craze, and I am not bothering to try anymore... I like Good Old Games and the few exclusives offered here only, the rest can disappear tomorrow, I won't miss it! :)
