Hello there fellow Witcher players

as the title says aftrer updating to 5.01 from 4.04 W3 onyl launches into Blackscreen
no it does not crash at all, i can hear it running and i even can load the savegame
so the game DOES run

Yes i have done the Driver update NVidia 617, Yes the runtimes are present as well
Any tips how to solve this?

When launching via Galaxy the overlay (msg on start) is flickering constantly on screen

No clue how to solve this, i suppose a fresh windows installation might be needed

Delete Documents\The Witcher 3\dx12user.settings (better yet, rename, to keep for later). Let the game revert to the defaults.

After it's re-generated when the game runs, look what's inside that file under [Viewport]. Change the Resolution= to something small and set FullScreenMode=0 temporarily. It should at least run like that.

What do you mean by "updated?" It'd be better to install from scratch (and uninstall any previous versions). Also delete the settings entirely (warning: first copy your saved games from Documents\The Witcher 3\gamesaves to some safe place).

Actually, what you're describing sounds like it could be caused by a DLL leftover in bin\x64_dx12 from some outdated mod. Something like dinput.dll, dwmapi.dll, version.dll shouldn't be there: if it is, it's just a loader for something else. But there are many possibilities what the name can be, it'd take forever to list them all.

Do other games work? I don't think you need to reinstall Windows then. Maybe re-install the game after uninstalling it first completely though. But for starters try the above less drastic measures. And remember to protect your saved games.

Ye my thoughts were on Galaxy Overlay problem, because when starting with Galaxy the
overlay message on startup flickers, instead of dissapearing.

Game does run with blackscreen when i run it over the exe as standalone.

I ll try the manual Fullscreen in the settings file. after i reinstall 617.42 now.

Other games DO run just fine, WoWs or Fallout London for that matter.
Only other exception is Cyberpunk 2077 crashes rightout on me now.

I think a full Systemreinstall is imminent either way, this Win installation is quite old
so i wouldn t count out some file left overs in the system folders as well.

my saves are backed up... before the next intallation i ll backup 4.04 too
don t wanna wait 3 hours for the update and rollback again

well out of options now, tried the DX12User.setting approach
Latest NVidia Drivers are present (ONLY the Drivers)

W3 was fresh installed today, so no file leftovers only the remaster
rly no clue left... except MY Win 10 was cut out or that NVidia
rly RLY want the online connection now with their bloody app and NVContainer
