MindsEye

Great game if you know what to expect!

I was somewhat biased against the game because the reviews weren't particularly good. But for the roughly €18 it cost at launch, I wanted to try it out for myself. I was really expecting a trashy, buggy game. But I got something completely different... This game isn't a "GTA killer," nor does it reinvent the wheel. But it executes what it does extremely well. It is a strictly linear single-player game—something you should be aware of before buying. The gameplay consists mostly of cover-based shooting, *Spec Ops: The Line* style, yet the missions remain varied. The drone that accompanies you for most of the game gains increasingly better abilities as the story progresses, and it’s just plain fun to use. Visually, the game is impressive, though I did experience severe edge flickering at first. However, this can be fixed by enabling the upscaler—as strange as that might sound. The world itself is surprisingly expansive; you really notice this when flying over the landscape in a SkyCar. A huge number of beautiful details reveal themselves here; it would have been great if the world had been fully utilized in a true open-world title! For the most part, the cutscenes are truly Hollywood-caliber; the game knows how to stage an action movie. Add to that good voice acting (English only, but with subtitles) and solid sound design. I encountered almost no bugs in the version I played—at least nothing game-breaking. There were a few graphical glitches, and I ran into one scripting error, but that was easily resolved by reloading the last checkpoint. Here’s a quick summary of the pros and cons! Pros: - Interesting story - Good graphics - Customizable controls (except for ENTER) - Good animations and cutscenes - Solid combat system - Varied missions - Drone is a great feature Cons: - Requires a powerful PC - Autosave only; no visible save icon - A few minor bugs remain

Outcast - A New Beginning

My love letter to Adelpha!

If the game designers wanted to make this game just for me, then they succeeded. I just watched the credits for the second time, and I'm so happy and incredibly satisfied that I picked up this fantastic game again and played it through to the end. This game simply did almost everything right. It never became too frustrating or difficult, it was always fair, and moving through the picturesque world of Adelpha was a real joy from beginning to end. I also really like the Talans; they're a peaceful people, but some of them have minds of their own! The quests are quite varied, although my expectations aren't too high. There's always something to do, though. Depending on your mood, you can follow Orym trails, clear out enemy bases, conquer Fandazma shrines, deal with Gork outbreaks, or continue with one of the main quests. All of it was genuinely fun, without any frustration or feeling overwhelmed. THIS is how games should be! Also the combat feels fun and satisfying. You can collect weapon mods which you can put in your gun's mod slots and experiment with an extreme amount of combinations, it's amazing! Plus, you have a shield and a dodge move to evade incoming damage. Are there any flaws? Yes, there are. I experienced some audio glitches and AI glitches from time to time. Initially, the game would simply crash after a cutscene, but it worked again after I loaded an older save. Since then, it hasn't crashed again. But even these minor issues don't detract from the fantastic game design, and I highly recommend it to any action fan! Additional info: You can save the game anytime and there's a key rebinding menu ;)

BioMenace Remastered

Remastered and enhanced with love

BioMenace was one of my favorite DOS games back then, and what Rigel has done with it is simply fantastic! The graphics have been expanded and improved without destroying the charm of the original! There's also a completely new, relatively long episode that offers even more variety than the episodes in the main game. The reason I never finished the game back then was its rather high difficulty level. This has been addressed by the ability to save mid-level. This makes the game considerably less frustrating, and now I've finally been able to complete it – great stuff! This game is simply a MUST for anyone who appreciates good, classic platformers!

First Racer

Just don't expect a Forza

This game cost me about 3 bucks and for that... it's pretty cool! You do races and upgrade your car or buy a new car altogether. Forza or NFS offer a lot more but also cost a LOT more :)

Clustertruck

Simple but fun!

This game is just plain fun. The premise is simple: reach the end of the level without touching the ground. You jump around on trucks that are clearly driven by drunk drivers. The concept is simple, yet very creatively executed. I'm usually the one who complains about games being too difficult — well, I've reached world 5 now (10 levels per world). I've tried some levels 20+ times before I finally beat them, but the gameplay is fun enough to keep me hooked. The great thing is that you never really lose much progress if you make a mistake. If you touch obstacles or the ground, the level restarts instantly — no loading times whatsoever. Most levels often take less than a minute, and when you complete one, it's incredibly satisfying! I highly recommend this game. It's crazy, it's adrenaline-pumping, and it's simply fantastic!
