bombardier: Just because you want to hear some comforting words in your time of stress, that does not make them true. In fact, they could actually harm you even more by making you ignore the reality.
What stress? I was never stressed about Covid.

bombardier: Doctor on YT had no evidence that Covid is not bad. He was scared and he made stuff up to calm himself. People were scared and believed him so they could calm themselves. YT took him down because he had no evidence and scared people immediately screamed "censorship".
No evidence other than the numbers they themselves had?

Besides it was said Covid would just meld in and become part of the 'common cold' sooner or later. Not that it made much of a difference.

Though in the interview i found (not the original video that got removed) he said the hospitals were not getting overrun, rather they were getting so few people the hospital had a chance of closing. Remember the 'lockdowns' and 2-weeks were meant so the system wouldn't get overloaded, not to squash or remove the virus once and for all time (which would have been impossible). In both cases masks and lockdowns didn't stop the spread, and everyone eventually gets it. So there's not much to worry on for that.

Though i think the vaccines are probably worse than the virus. Just an opinion, saw a chart where i added up the numbers and you were 6x more likely to get injured or die from vaccines than from what they were protecting you from.

Garrison72: Nah. You just want an excuse to shut down and censor people you disagree with. Politicians want to use it to slander their opposition and suppress stories inconvenient to them. Corporate media wants to use it to discredit their competition in the streaming space, because they're losing their audience and precious revenue. And governments use it to fear monger and divide people. That's how this disinformation project has played out in reality.

bombardier: Don't make stuff up.
Who used social media like that?
Mostly Trump and his right wing "I want to see world burn" retards.

Musk actually tried to ban the Twitter account that was tracking his private jet to hide that the green thing is only a scam to sell cars.
He fired Tesla employees who were publicly discussing about full driving feature bugs in Tesla cars.
He tried to use social media to pender to common folks by lying that he sleeps in small bad in friends house, completely ignoring that house is a mansion and that he is using it in it's entirety.
'Don't make stuff up'

Great rebuttal mate. 10/10.

'Who used social media like that?'

Government officials, journalists and tech giants. It's right there in my post, genius.

America has about 245 years of history behind it. In that time, in ALL of the events Progressive POV vs Conservative POV...do you know how many times the Conservative POV was on the right side of history? (Hint: ONCE) And I'll bet $100 in GOG credit you cant name that one time.

That sounds loaded. Mostly because the winners can rewrite history to their liking, and remove things they didn't like. It's not a surprise, ancient civilizations showed their written records had whitewashed out their failures, while others kept them down.

But i'll take a stab.... Ending slavery / owning slaves? (Civil war)

Nope. Yes, Lincoln was a Republican. But in the mid 19th Century, the Republicans were the progressives. The confederacy, was led by Democrat Conservatives.

Remember, Conservatism is and always HAS been, pro states rights and pro smaller weaker federal authority. Lincoln led a war, to PRESERVE a strong centralized, Federal power base and to deny the so called "states rights". And that is no rewrite of history. That is simple, verifiable fact.

Further evidence? Look at Electoral College election maps pre 1964 nd post 1964. why 1964? That was when Democratic President Lyndon Johnson signed the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and famously said at the time, "we just lost the south, for the next 50 years". The confederate states? By and large BLUE prior to 1964., by and large RED, ever since.

Dinesh, is a fkn idiot. WHATEVER he says, you can bet on the opposite. He has less integrity than trump, who it has been proven lied over 30,000 times in his 4 year term.

and no, it wasn't the Revolutionary War either. Conservatives of the 18th century were called TORRIES. (Still are in much of the world) They favored remaining under the Crown and fought FOR King George. And in fact, George Washington opposed the war, up until about a year before it. That was when King George issued an edict which barred the settling of Indian lands. That upset Washington's planned acquisition of that lend, so he could claim rents from settlers. THAT pissed ole George W off, and THAT led the the organizing of the Colonial Army.

It wasn't Womens Suffrage, and it wasn't ending child labor in coal mines. Nor was it monopoly busting or unionizing, (which FTR), led to the decade of greatest economic growth the nation ever saw.

For grins; here is the 1956 GOP Presidential Platform, under which Republican President Eisenhower was re-elected. Do read it CAREFULY:

PRO-immigration
PRO-union
PRO-minimum wage
PRO-Social security
PRO-Social Welfare safety nets
PRO-higher education

ALL of which, todays American GOP opposes.

Let me know when you give up, and want to know the one and only time in ALL of American history, when the Conservative POV was correct, and the Progressive one was wrong.

Gentlemen, please, you're only handing the mods an easy reason to lock yet another discussion thread. Please, back on the topic of Twitter and Musk rather than this sideline of American political history. It's interesting in a way, but it's gonna get this thread locked if you keep it up.

Yes, culture shifts, values shift and political dynamics change. This should surprise no one. The topic here is whether reasonable people or the left have a proper view on free speech. The last few years show that the left doesn't value free speech. Elon saw this. He saw classical liberal and conservative ideas and journalism being suppressed or banned on platforms like twitter. That's why he bought it. So we can all speak freely again, exchange ideas, debate what is good or bad. All that is in the spirit of democracy. Everything the modern left proposes - censorship, banning certain viewpoints as 'hate' speech, suppressing stories inconvenient to the democrats, banning discussion on forbidden topics and slapping taboos on heterodox ideas - that's what the left embraces. All this is to say who is on the wrong side of history now? The left.

Like so many on the right, you conflate free speech, with consequence free speech. Further, you are apparently unaware that the 1st Amendment right of free speech, prohibits the GOVERNMENT from limiting your speech, not a company. Do learn how to read and comprehend WHAT you read, before trying to make social arguments.

There is no consequence free speech. The issue, which I already laid out, is whether we want to embrace an ethos of countering speech with more speech, or whether we want to counter speech with an ethos of censorship and suppression. Most democracies operate on the former. I'm also aware of the difference between the first amendment and a company that has the legal right to censor - which they very much do. Thanks for the reading advice. Mine to you is try to actually debate rather than resorting to ad hominem, and work on your reading comprehension so your responses are relevant.

Which only proves that your Progressive-Conservative dihotomy doesn't work. Today "progressives" (at least that's how leftist call themselves) are suggesting segregation.

Yes. And this is wrong as it allowes (in conjunction with Section 230) for corporation to do what they want on a public platforms like Twitter or Facebook.
