1000xResist (XSX Game Pass)

Yeah...I like this type of story usually, philosophical undertones. It was okay, but I also thought the game sometimes dragged scenes out way too long once we already got the message. It's like they had to reach a game length quota or something.

Some reviews also mention the maze like main map area. Initially it was annoying, but you retread the same area quite often and I soon found it to not be an issue. Overall the game started out really interesting, got boring in the middle with too much padding, then became interesting again at the end. Just average in the end, I don't feel any need to add this one to my curated Game Pass pass buy later on deep sale list. Once is enough.

The Corridor: The Stanley Parable on a budget (spoiler free)

I love The Stanley Parable. This game, while I also like it, feels lacking compared to the former.
Both are commentary about video games as a medium and the relationship between the game and the player. The Stanley Parable tackles video game narrative as well as player's agency and motivation, while The Corridor takes the player's agency and motivation aspect (and the 4th wall breaks) and crank them up to the max. The 2 roles involved in The Corridor are the player and the developer (instead of the narrator in The Stanley Parable).
The game's narrative is great, in Stanley Parable-esque games way. I played another game w/ kinda similar premise, Duck Simulator 2, but honestly The Corridor did a better job in exploring & demonstrating its premise. The game commentary thingy is even expanded outside of the game lol. I like that. The Developer voice acting is good, not as good as the Narrator in Stanley Parable tho. The gameplay is also great, but could get repetitive after a while (even for its length), granted the game still could spice up the mundane task (what task you may ask? It's one of the main plot device so I won't spoil it lol).
The game's graphics are pretty basic. Most of them are assets tho, given the game is made by a single person (they even listed the assets used in the credits lol). But strangely the performance tanks on my IGPU laptop to around +20 FPS, I've played some other recent games with stylistic style but still richer than this game, and those games ran just fine on medium. This game doesn't even feature any way to turn down the graphics quality (I mean, what else could you turn down if the default graphics are already pretty basic lol).

Conclusion: 7.5/10 Great short game, it's just weirdly not optimized considering the graphics, especially if you're on a potato rig like me (screams in IGPU agony)

Disco Elysium, Jan 1 (Epic)-Was really excited to play this but couldn't quit finish it in 2025. I was pretty disappointed. The game is praised endlessly for its writing and the descriptions were often pretty evocative but the characters and general substance of the writing was one dimensional, over the top, edgelord wannabe slop. Parts of it were funny in their absurdity though. The voice acting was mostly a miss for me with the exception of Kim, Joyce, Evrart, and Garte. The narrator wasn't bad either but Ancient Reptilian Brain, Limbic System, and Spinal Cord were truly terrible. Gameplay-wise it felt less like an RPG and more like a point and click adventure game especially in the middle parts when you've mostly run out of leads and are just revisiting every character to see if there is new dialogue to continue the plot. I liked the idea of swapping out clothes for different stat bonuses but they really needed a faster way to do it that didn't require hovering over every item to see what it did. Towards the end of the game I was taking a few minutes every skill check to swap items and it got old. The plot was good up until the very end but in the designers defense I think most mysteries fail once they're unraveled. Lastly, the game would not end. Three times I thought I was at the end only to slog thru another couple hours of shallow political or social banter. I didn't hate it but I did not love it and I think it will be hard for another game to take the title of most overrated this year.

Bayonetta (XSX)

Xbox 360 version played on XSX. Playing this using backwards compatibility on XSX brings no resolution boost, but it does lock the frame rate to 60 fps- the original on 360 could drop below 60 at times apparently. It also gains HDR. Overall it's a perfectly fine way to play the game.

It's more fun than Devil May Cry, but half the game is cutscenes, including in the middle of boss fights which I find incredibly annoying in any game. The combat is fast and fun, but the game has little exploration and the boss fights are confusing- especially the final one where I honestly had no idea what I was doing or what I was meant to be aiming at for most of the fight. They are all gimmick bosses as well. I got so annoyed with the final boss that I dropped the difficulty down to very easy just to end it all. Maybe I'd played the sequel...but it looks like Nintendo have that one locked away on their systems forever...and the last thing that sounds like fun is playing a fast action game like this on Switch.
