Magmarock: I don't think GOG have ever removed content from a game like that though.
Content in the game? I don't know.

Bonus content? They have.

clisair: One thing that I have noticed, generally (there are always exceptions) The younger generation tend to favor Steam for the I gotta have it now group. On the other hand, if you grew up seeing an Apollo rocket lift off and played with a trash80 or C64 or even a 386 or 486, you tend to not like steam.

We Oldies like to have physical copies, when we can and are not too worried about an occasional disconnect, as long as we can play the games that we bought. We like the feel of ownership and not feel like we have bought a subscription that can be yanked away on a whim.

Any thoughts?
I'm one of those oldies that remember watching the Apollo moon landing on tv (the first one, in 1969). It's not so much that I'm attached to physical copies (I'm actually preferring digital more and more), but it's what things like Steam and DRM represent: outside control of a product I bought and paid for. This devalues said product in my eyes so that I refuse to pay full price for something that's effectively out of my control. So while I use Steam and Origin, anything tied to a service like these is not worth more than around 5 bucks to me.

vsr: I asked in a GOG's topic for a change in GOG's user license, to keep bought game the way it was when you buy it. But, GOG's employee said that this is impossible.
So, if you do not download your games on GOG, you will be screwed in the same manner as steam users.

I've seen people mention downgraded ost's and artbooks I believe, which is close.
If playing the latest "hot" and new titles is your thing, then I don't think you have much choice. You know the price for buying from Steam.

I have been in your place about a year and a half ago, until I said enough is enough with DRM. To sum up your 3 options:

I don't buy from Steam at all and if the game doesn't come on GOG then the devs can forget about my money. Should the game come out on GOG later on, I will buy it if I'm still interested (a perfect example of this is Torchlight 2).

Steam is dead to me, I can't imagine going back to that.....cage.

My feelings 100% summed up.

Keep in mind i'll probably still play games that aren't on GoG, but i'll buy them when they are on GoG (or HB as a DRM-free game)... Yeah i won't get the latest and greatest, but it was never about that. (Besides the latest releases of games if 2014 is anything to show by AAA studios, is that gaming needs to seriously fix itself).
I like steam about as much as cancer.

Thanks for breaking my Xcom, f**kers.
Steam has terrible customer support.
Other than that I don't really dislike it.

Which XCOM?

Steam does not have terrible CS. They have the terribad + horribad + snail CS. That's the proper one to address how awful Steam CS is.

Isn't that giving snails a bad name? Snails would probably give you better CS than VALVe/Steam

Except in the rare case where you get ahold of Gabe directly and give him your ticket number...

Zookie: I am a big fan of GOG. It is by far my favorite digital distribution site. But Steam has always, and is likely to remain so for the foreseeable future, the 800 pound gorilla in the room. What do you do if there is a game on Steam that you really want but you are unable to get it elsewhere? I have never thought much about this until the Homeworld Remastered release.

Do you just buy it on Steam and just let the lost potential revenue for GOG to be a motivator to add the titles that are being bought up at other distributors?

Do you buy on Steam and then later, if GOG gets it, buy it again to support GOG to support its DRM free philosophy and its focus on resurrecting old games?

Or do you refuse to support Steam and just hold out and buy the game you want when it shows up on GOG or another a less draconian distributor? Regardless of the time it takes?
Personally, I'll wait until it either shows up on GOG (preferred) and hits a seasonal promo sale, or secondly I'll wait until it either shows up in bundles in a year or whatever or it shows up on 80% off on GMG with the 20% bonus coupon.

Very good analogy, it's a digital cage

Enemy Unknown. Unplayable until I download 4gb of sh!t that I don't want and didn't ask for. F**kers.

But I've been over this before in my Shogun 2 10gb F U steam thread. I'd rather not dig all that back up really, it just puts me in a bad mood.
I got really pissed off now with the PC port of Dragon Age Inquisition, just cannot finish the game and even modding is not fun.

So I looked beyond and read the controls in Shadow of Mordor are much better ^^

The UI doesn't look like you are controlling a space ship (DA:I), you have free camera movement as I have seen from lets plays (not in DA:I), overall it's a grinding side missions concept (like in DA:I).

Should I give it a shot (obviously on steam)? Anyone else tested it?

4GB of what? Just curious, I own the game and am wondering what 4GB of stuff is there that I might not want.
