SargonAelther: Not fast enough to let us acquire the full game (pre-order).

Xeshra: A mod unlocking it should be doing the trick but anyone able to do it and not hidden inside the pirate scene is too scared to do it.
There is always some "mod" to unlock everything, but we frankly should not have to crack GOG games. This is all so very wrong. And this is only going to get worse. If GOG wants to preserve modern games, which will not stay "modern" forever, they really need to get better at acquiring all the FOMO.
Surprised this got here before the latest Alan Wake. When will we experience the spiral? Need to know that story first?

It's an Epic-exclusive. Steam doesn't have it either.

I'd rather get Quantum Break with offline episodes, but Microsoft letting it go is even less likely than Epic LOL.

teceem: But I can't; and it's GOG's fault!

Robette: Seriously... I like GOG and I try to buy here whenever I get a choice what platform to buy from, but I skip the forums because of this constant whining by a very small but vocal minority who believes they get exploited as soon as you need to log into Galaxy for a pair of cosmetic socks or stuff like that.
For real, I've read people here that refuse to buy Rogue trader (a game with hundreds and hundreds of items) or Cyberpunk (which has over a hundred uniques) because they had some now-inaccessible day 1 pre order that gave you... 2 or 3 early game items? or there's some DRM-locked items that can be easilly obtained with console commands

It's fine to point it out, really, but you don't need to litter EVERY single thread with this nothing burger

This. However, FOMO is not a fun thing or something as casual people make it sound here as such marketing tactics are exploitive and borderline unethical, and certainly has nothing to do with "preservation", personally to me such framing is just a justification for an addiction out of control, as FOMO has nothing to do with preservation or gaming.

One does not need to be professional in the field to empirically or via research to verify that its literally a negative psychological trait that can lead to severe behavioural and psychological long term damage. If a store supports its literally taking advantage of people to make a profit,

Its surreal that gamers that have FOMO actually sidestep the issue completely and ignore the question and blame everyone else for their problem and try to normalize something that its not the norm and should not be normal. Consumers asking to be exploited is the telltale that something is very wrong.

Have defended before and IMO should eventually be part of DSM as to provide further scientific support that such practices should end or limited in such manner as not to be exploitative. GOG not supporting by intent or otherwise, IMO is a positive thing, as as FOMO practices are as bad a loot boxes.

If an industry needs to resort to such practices to exist and maintain jobs, perhaps is a business/industry that should not exist to begin with.

And that is the problem. They charge the full price and they do no let us pre-order. Sometimes the game they do not let us pre-order comes out as soon as a week after Steam, yet they still opt to shadow-drop without a chance to pre-order.

Very very scummy on publisher's behalf and very weak on GOG's behalf.

Or how about Remedy and Konami and the rest treat GOG equally as every other platform for once? We're always thrown scraps, even when we get charged full price for said scraps. I can be more forgiving to the likes of Octopath Traveler 1/2 arriving incomplete, because they arrive with a considerable discount at the very least. If they charge full price and release on GOG soon after the global release, they should give GOG the full game with the chance to acquire all the FOMO. Otherwise they deserve the backlash for the 2nd class treatment.

We should not have to look to Steam for TRUE game preservation.

LiefLayer: Gog used to have the philosophy of only selling the complete package with all the extras, and I miss that because it also included manuals, desktop wallpapers, soundtracks, etc. But now the versions are often divided into basic and deluxe versions... and if I have to pay for the extras, screw the extras.
Don't worry... there days GOG often fails to secure even the NON-FOMO paid extras. Soundtracks are the #1 missing item from the 2nd class list... and GOG used to advertise about giving us soundtrack LOL.

Like seriously, we could not even get COE33's soundtracks? The ones that everyone loves? Time to use some of that patron money as minimum guarantees.

I have to say, I'm confused and irritated by those complaints about missing pre-order bonuses. What are we even talking about? Skins, dance emotes, 100 units of ingame currency and other useless shiny crap like that. This stuff is not even part of the game experience; if anything, it ruins the immersion and / or balance. It's designed by marketing departments, targeted at FOMO crowds to lure people into pre-ordering. Complaining about the absence of that junk is like feeling excluded when your local supermarket offers free stickers of bunny rabbits for every child under the age of 12.

If GOG doesn't have the game on pre-order, there's no pre-oder bonus, naturally. Also, how is GOG supposed to aquire the rights to some silly hat for your playable space ranger / knight / WW2 soldier which is sold exclusively pre launch exclusively on Amazon exclusively for the PS5 version? If you really prefer to not have those games on GOG at all rather than having a DRM-free version lacking a few marketing gimmicks, we obviously have entirely different stances regarding what GOG should be focused on. Besides, if that pre-order swag is so important to you, wouldn't you have already pre-ordered the game on another store as well as purchased every available microtransaction because otherwise the game would be incomplete to you?

Seriously, those are nice-to-haves (at best), but the argument of GOG versions being incomplete without them is just insane to me.

Skins (both serious and immersion-breaking ones) have existed in games for decades, but they used to be in-game rewards. Now everything is a marketing trap and even CDPR engages in this toxic marketing HARD.

These skins are part of the game, like they always have been.Only the unlock method has changed or the worse. Therefore if Steamers get access, GOG users should get it too.

It's not preservation if we are getting an incomplete game. It's not out fault that Remedy did not let us pre-order the damn thing. And this is only going to get worse. Everyone is engaging in FOMO. Every single new game. And no new game stays new forever. So if GOG cares about "preservation", they really need to get on top of this problem already.

GOG needs to either:
• Allow pre-orders, DESPITE delayed releases.
• Convince all publishers to convert pre-order bonuses to day one / week one purchase bonuses. In case of Konami they even call them "Early Purchase" bonuses, yet they still ROB US of them.

Others here can tell us to go to Steam, but I would imagine it would not help GOG much if we actually did.

GOG has always understood preservation as keeping games running on modern OS, NOT making a complete archive of every FOMO idiocy or game version available. You as probably a native English speaker may disagree, but pretending to be obtuse and not understanding GOG's intention after all this time so that you can keep making the same arguments over and over has gotten old a long time ago.

Would strongly disagree. The game is here, thats what matters to most it seems (including me).

GOG and Steam are stores, thus they compete. A consumer can decide what is the best option for their preference. That includes different pricing, content, timing, etc...thats what competition looks like. Isnt that the mantra? "Competition is good". If every store was the same there would be no point in having different stores (or competition).

Neither the stores or pub/devs owes you anything, let alone bound to your strange logic that seems to meets your needs. Then again you can always start your own business/store and offer that service with those conditions instead of telling what others should do - as if its that popular as you think it is then you'll be closing a market gap and its should be profitable. Or better yet, you can always buy GOG and ran it as you see fit :p

Bashing, spamming, annoying GOG and pub/devs for the inability to recognize that weakness lies within you (i.e. that you "need" things to be like you think they should) it is a you problem. Not a GOG, pub/dev or worlds problem.

So you think GOG is weak and i think its doing its job just fine :p opinions :p

Mighty catch, gog. Congrats.

Not for me right now, too much on my plate but I'll get around to it soon enough

I DO disagree, because that is only a small part. If I install vanilla World of Warcraft from a CD and its logon screen launches, shows the dark portal animation, plays music, plays the cinematic, is that game preserved? No it is not, because we cannot play the damn game. If they get a hold of Diablo 2 without LOD (So 4 acts), is that game preserved? No, not without LOD.

Launching (a part of) the game on modern hardware is not enough. Content availability matters too, if not more so. The Video Game History Foundation preserves everything game-related even magazines. That is preservation. Any publisher can patch up a game and they all do it. Patching alone is not preservation. Todd Howard is "preserving" Skyrim harder than anybody else LOL.

Going back to GOG, they used to advertise about giving us manual and soundtrack and various goodies. Now they fail to give us that and Steam gets it all instead. We can't get the extras. We can't get the full game. The cake is now indeed a lie.

GOG is the victim of its own success. They proved that people wanted extras. They proved that people wanted older games. So now everyone monetises extras (on Steam) and everyone patches up old games (on Steam) and GOG gets scraps. And full-price still-warm scraps are the most infuriating.

Where are the COE33 soundtracks? Where are the Din Crisis soundtracks? On Steam, not GOG.
Where are the classic C&C titles? On Steam, not GOG.
Where is all the modern game FOMO? On Steam, not GOG.

What exactly is being preserved at this point? GOG must try harder. Less unwanted patching (Dragon Age, Oblivion) and more minimum guarantees for missing content. Plenty of people are now begging GOG to give unpatched versions of games. People do not value patching as much as you (or GOG) may think. patching is only a small part of game preservation. It is not the entirety of it.

Weak in terms of negotiating power. GOG patched up Dino Crisis for Capcom, which were then published on Steam, and they could not use that as leverage to bring the missing Dino Crisis soundtrack to GOG? They are being sold on Steam.
https://store.steampowered.com/app/1568800/Dino_Crisis_Original_Soundtrack/
https://store.steampowered.com/app/1568810/Dino_Crisis_2_Original_Soundtrack/

Yeah, GOG is weak at the negotiation table.

Yeah yeah, I have brought plenty of missing extras and achievements to GOG by begging devs directly. So did other members of the community. It's something that GOG should have done, but were unable or unwilling to do.

LOL all its missing is tears and rolling on the floor.

GOG customer support truly are heroes for having to put up with tatrums. The entitlement is off-charts.

Preservation marketing is backfiring, that much is is indeed on GOG as it does ake marketing claims that are over-reach/impossible to meet.

Its very sad on one end, but on the other end...its very entretaining :) -- and in these days, the world needs a laugh, so the pety/surreal grievances provide a much needed laugh.

With things like contractually guaranteed (timed) exclusivity for certain platforms there just isn't a way for GOG to secure the locked additional content the moment the GOG release of the base game happens, sometimes.

In those cases GOG can try their very hardest (which I'm sure they always do) all day long - contractual obligations are contractual obligations. Which will expire at some point in the future, most of the time, and the previously exclusive additional content becomes available everywhere else, including GOG, eventually. You just have to be patient, and for the time being maybe just play the game without the inconsequential extra fluff.

The only scummy thing are the pre-orders. It is the exploitation of your FOMO that is the scummy thing, and yet you are acting like the exact opposite is true. It's all completely upside down.

If I had a wish regarding GOG and pre-orders, it would be that they be outright banned in this store. It's a scammy, predatory practice. It's crazy to see people outright angrily demanding to be exploited.
